About the WD Security software

The WD Security™ software implements password protection and the 256-bit hardware data encryption capabilities of your supported WD hard drive. Use the WD Security software to:

• Create a password to keep others from accessing the files on your drive
• Change your password
• Remove password protection
• Unlock your drive on any computer—whether the WD Security software is installed there or not

Operating system compatibility

The WD Security software is compatible with the following Windows^® operating systems:

• Windows Vista^®
• Windows 7
• Windows 8
• Windows 8.1

Compatibility can vary, depending on hardware configuration and operating system. For the best performance and reliability, always install the latest updates and service pack (SP). Go to the Start menu and select Windows Update.

Hard drive support

The WD Security software supports the following WD external hard drives:

• My Passport
• My Passport Edge™
• My Passport Ultra™
• My Passport Ultra Metal Edition
• My Passport Slim™
• My Book^®
• My Book Duo
• The following Mac drives when they have been reformatted for Windows operating systems:
  • My Passport^® for Mac
  • My Passport Edge for Mac
  • My Passport Air™
  • My Passport Studio™
  • My Book for Mac (USB 3.0)
  • My Book for Mac
  • My Book Studio™ (USB 3.0)

Note: The WD Security software does not support:

• Other manufacturers' hard drives
• WD hard drives that were not originally configured for the WD Security software
